The 鶹ɫƬ Department of Visual Arts features an exhibition gallery and state of the art studio classrooms with a view including ceramics, photography, drawing, painting and design.

Students majoring in art generally begin by taking a sequence of art courses to learn a number of skills.
- Classes are small with individualized instruction; students are assisted in the use of various art mediums to develop their technical skills and engage in research for assignments.
- Following the completion of course work at 鶹ɫƬ, students are assisted with finding the best four-year institution for transfer and completion of a four-year degree in Fine Arts.

鶹ɫƬ’s Visual Art Department includes a diverse group of exhibiting artists with national resumes. All are included in many publications and collections. Combined faculty has more than 70 years of cumulative experience teaching studio art and art history. 鶹ɫƬ art faculty are interactive with students as courses offer opportunities for development of technical expertise and expression of creative ideas, and understanding the traditions of the many mediums of studio art. The art department faculty work to assist students in getting their portfolios ready for pursuing their degrees in art as well as exhibiting their artworks in galleries.
The art faculty promotes visiting artist/educators to teach workshops, lectures and exhibitions in the 鶹ɫƬ Art Gallery.
The Visual Arts Faculty is committed to providing a solid foundation for students focused on improving their artistic skills, pursuing a visual arts career, or for transferring to a 4-year institution. Course offerings are transferable and in accord with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
The Visual Arts Program principal objectives are as follows: (1) to increase the student’s awareness and knowledge to be able to make judgments requiring critical thinking skills, aesthetic sensibility and visual learning. (2) to help students learn and develop specific methods and techniques in their chosen discipline and (3) to produce work –course work, portfolios that demonstrate these processes and (4) to reinforce individual empowerment for life-long learning.
Various scholarships are available through 鶹ɫƬ including The Clelie Moore Ceramic Art Scholarship ($300) for a ceramic student whose work exhibits excellence. Call 409-944-1309.
