Welcome to Â鶹ɫÇéƬ's STEM Student Center!

The STEM Student Center is a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant founded project that is open to all students in one of the science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) specified fields. 

The mission of the STEM Student Center at Â鶹ɫÇéƬ is to support STEM students by providing engaging opportunities that will enrich the experience of being in a STEM program. We aim to help students achieve their goal of a successful transition from Â鶹ɫÇéƬ to their intended four-year university.

 

STEM Center Services

In our center you can reserve a desk whether you are needing to study, work on homework, work on a group project, or just have a place to unwind for a moment.

 To ensure that you have successfully reserved your space please follow the instructions below:

  • Select an available (green) slot to start the reservation.
  • Submit reservation time.
  • Agree to the terms and conditions.
  • Complete the reservation form and submit your booking.
  • Follow the link in the confirmation email or visit the Circulation Desk to confirm your booking.

Students are able to print from their own device using the following instructions:

DOWNLOAD AND SETUP  

Use the  :

  • Click the [Download and run Mobility Print] button 

  • Click the [Connect and get my printers] button 

    • click the [Open PaperCut Mobility Print] dialog after 

PRINTING 

  • Now find something you would like to print and follow the normal printing procedure. 

When selecting the printer, look for "N310 Secure Print [N-310 STEM Lab]" and have it selected. 

After pressing print, you should see a dialog saying it sent successfully 

  • If not, follow the Troubleshoot instructions

[One time step, first time printing] 

After pressing print, a window will pop up prompting you to log in with your school credentials. 

  • Username: GC + ID 

  •  Password: your account password 

Then press "Sign in and print", which will send it off to the printer in the STEM center.

  1. Go to the kiosk by the printer; to log on, enter your GC ID number in the first field on the kiosk. 

  2. You can now manage your print jobs and print those you need. 

  3. Don't forget to log out after you're done! 

The Â鶹ɫÇéƬ STEM Honors Program is a student organization made up of academically motivated students and provides them with academic enhancements, support systems, and opportunity for scholarship that they may not otherwise have access to.

STEM Honors Program

Academic Coaching is an additional resource for students that includes beneficial elements such as goal setting, time management, study skills, and strengths development.

To better support students in STEM programs the STEM Student Center offers tutoring for certain STEM courses for students in the Center.

Tutoring is offered both on a drop-in and appointment basis in 30 min intervals. 

Courses supported for Fall 2024 will be announced soon

Tutoring is offered:
Monday - Thursday
8:00am - 5:00pm

Online appointment scheduling coming soon.  

Students can receive assistance in course and transfer planning by making an Advising & Counseling appointment.

What are your plans after Â鶹ɫÇéƬ? Every semester, the STEM Student Center organizes university presentations inviting esteemed faculty and staff representatives from various universities to our campus. These sessions delve into the myriad possibilities awaiting students, providing comprehensive insights into the academic, research, and career prospects offered by these esteemed institutions.

At these presentations students have an opportunity to gain:

  • Insider Knowledge: learn about their academic offerings, campus culture, research opportunities, and student life from the experts. 
  • Clarity of Path: faculty and staff can guide you towards programs that align with your passions and strengths. Discover new fields you may not have considered and get clarity on the path that suits you best. You're equipping yourself with the knowledge needed to make an informed choice. You'll have a clearer idea of which institutions resonate with your goals and values.
  • Networking Opportunities: network with professors and staff who could become mentors, recommenders, or even future collaborators. These connections could open doors to internships, research positions, and job opportunities down the line.
  • Scholarships and Funding Information: uncover these opportunities and learn about the application process. Faculty and staff often have the inside scoop on what it takes to secure funding for your education.
  • Answers to Questions: in this forum to get all your queries answered. Whether it's about class sizes, housing options, or extracurricular activities, you'll leave with a clear picture of what to expect.
  • Understanding of the Culture: you'll get a taste of what it's like to be part of that community. From academic rigor to social activities, understanding the culture can help you make an informed decision about where you'll thrive.

Learn how to establish a strong online presence, craft compelling resumes, write persuasive cover letters, and ace interviews. Whether exploring career options or gearing up for the workforce, this series is tailored to help students succeed. Don't miss this opportunity to build a professional toolkit and confidently take the next step in the career journey.

Â鶹ɫÇéƬ students have a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in labs exploring topics of interest at one of three participating universities: Texas A&M University at Galveston, Lamar University, and Texas Southern University. Students do not have to be on track to attend these universities to gain these experiences.
