The Â鶹ɫÇ鯬 Student Government Association celebrated its incoming and outgoing officers at an induction ceremony April 11 in the Abe and Annie Seibel Foundation Wing.
David Gage was inducted 2019-2020 president. Also recognized were incoming officers Stephanie Sagastume, vice president; Graciela Salinas, secretary; Ivan Escalante, treasurer; and Shona Gastian, historian.
Outgoing officers recognized during the evening were Ivan Escalante, president; McKenzie Holmes, vice president; Maura Williams, treasurer; and Maurissa Pena, historian.
President Escalante noted a number of SGA accomplishments during the 2018-2019 academic year, including:
- the establishment of the Food for Thought mobile farmers market;
- attending Community College Day at the Texas State Capitol;
- monthly presentations at the Galveston Community College District Board of Regents meetings;
- participation in two Mardi Gras parades; and
- attending the Sam Houston State University Diversity Leadership Conference with other student organization leaders.
The students recognized a number of individuals, including Cynthia Parra, Student Activities coordinator and SGA adviser; Ron Crumedy, associate vice president for student services; Priselda Perez, director of Upward Bound; Rosie Rios, Upward Bound academic coordinator; Gabriela Zepeda, Upward Bound administrative assistant; Trish Szymanski, digital communications and web services manager; Sandi Smith, graphics specialist; and Carol Langston, director of public affairs and SGA co-adviser.
