Although 鶹ɫƬ has 14 games remaining in the NJCAA Division I Region 14 South Conference softball regular season, it may come down to the next two games between the Whitecaps and San Jacinto College-South that could determine the conference title.
Conference-leading GC (30-9 overall, 8-2 in conference), ranked No. 13 in the nation, hosts second place SJCS (29-17, 11-3) on Wednesday at 1 and 3:30 p.m. at the Lassie League Complex’s Carter Field, in Galveston.
With eyes on the prize, the Whitecaps played a non-conference tune-up doubleheader over the weekend against Louisiana State University-Eunice to prepare for their matchup against the Ravens.
“It was good preparation for us and we’ll need that additional work to help us, not just against San Jac, but for the last stretch of the regular season,” said GC Athletic Director and Head Softball Coach, Kelly Raines. “We played some close games and made some mistakes, which we’ll learn from. We’ll make some adjustments in practice this week and be ready come game day.”
GC dropped a pair of heart-breaking home games on Saturday against LSUE (32-8), the 2019 NJCAA national champions, 4-3 and 10-8.
After the twin bill against the Ravens on Wednesday, the Whitecaps will continue their home stand against Lamar State College-Port Arthur on April 13 at 1 and 3:30 p.m. Games are free and open to the public.
