鶹ɫƬ (GC) and the 鶹ɫƬ Foundation (GCF) celebrated the college’s 56 years of service to the community by hosting Whitecaps Day on Sept. 18, 2023.
To commemorate the day GC first opened its doors in 1967, the GCF and Development office created a festive atmosphere in Moody Hall for faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members. Whitecaps Day featured a video display of alumni who work at the college, free popcorn and candy, a selfie station and a one-of-a-kind tie-dyed T-shirt sale created by current GC Art program students.
“It was a wonderful event to commemorate 鶹ɫƬ’s 56 years of service and providing educational opportunities to our community,” said GCF and Development Director, Kelly Kennedy. “Everyone had a lot of fun taking selfies, getting to know more about the college, meeting students and alumni, and reminiscing about their experiences at 鶹ɫƬ.”
GC also commemorated Whitecaps Day virtually on its social media channels by sharing historical information and images of the college, past and present, as well as testimonials from alumni and calls for gifts.
The donations raised during Whitecaps Day benefit the college’s student Emergency Fund, which provides monetary relief to students for unexpected circumstances that may significantly interfere with their ability to attend or complete college. In addition, donations were raised for Health Sciences and Nursing scholarships, as well as Athletics scholarships.
“We had a great response, online and in-person, and the Whitecaps Day tie-dyed T-shirts were a hit with everyone,” said Kennedy. “The donations made during Whitecaps Day will benefit student scholarships. We appreciate everyone who attended the event during the day, made donations, stopped by to talk to us, or to take a selfie.”
