The 鶹ɫƬ Theatre Department presents the world premiere of “Melville & Hawthorne” by Houston playwright Adriana Teodoru, from Nov. 17-19, at the Galveston College Fine Arts Building.

A graduate of the University of Houston with degrees in Theatre and English, Teodoru is a published author, playwright, actor and director. Her writing is centered around queer and social injustice themes.

In the summer of 1850, two authors met on a picnic. The year that followed would change both of their lives forever, and lead to the creation of the greatest novel in American Literature. “Melville & Hawthorne” is a 90-minute drama based on true events, which addresses many quintessential American themes we are still grappling with today.

Show dates and times for “Melville & Hawthorne” are Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain and the performances are free and open to the public. Performances are located in room FA-207 in the 鶹ɫƬ Fine Arts Building.

鶹ɫƬ Theatre department company members include: Walker Albert, Eva Arita, Elijah Barrie, Daniel Bourque, Alyssa Gudz, Chad Keith, Carson Sims and Adriana Teodoru. “Melville & Hawthorne” is recommended for mature audiences. This production is entered as a Participating Production in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.

The 鶹ɫƬ Theatre department offers a professional immersive training experience for all students within the disciplines of acting, playwrighting, directing, design, and technology. Four productions a year and a diverse range of theatre courses provides every opportunity for students to develop their theatrical skills. Scholarships are available.
