GALVESTON, Texas (March 24, 2025) – What started as a smooth sailing series for the 鶹ɫƬ Whitecaps turned into rough seas as the orange-and-blue lost three straight to Region 14 South Conference rival, San Jacinto College-North, including a Saturday doubleheader on the road.

GC dropped to 15-15 overall and fourth place in the South Conference with a 7-7 record. SJCN improved to 16-12 and 9-5, respectively, and climbed into second place behind Blinn College (24-6, 12-2).

“San Jac is a talented team and playing away is never easy for any team,” said GC Head Baseball Coach, Ryne Edmondson. “The last game of the series got away from us. It was a close, winnable game. There’s a lot of baseball still to be played this season and we’ll regroup before we begin a three-game series against Wharton County.”

The Whitecaps will begin a three-game series away against Wharton County Junior College on Thursday at 6 p.m. and conclude with a twin bill on Saturday at 2 and 4:30 p.m. at Bernard Davis Field, located at 81st Street and Frank Guisti Drive in Galveston. Games are free and open to the public.

After falling 7-0 in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, GC took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. The home team answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 5-2 advantage.

The Whitecaps responded in kind with three runs of their own in the fourth frame to knot the contest at 5-all.

The Ravens broke the stalemate with a three-run sixth to take an 8-5 lead. GC rallied in the ninth and got two runs back, but it wasn’t enough and narrowly lost, 8-7.

Whitecaps right-handed pitcher freshman Lucas Moore was credited with the loss and dropped to 1-4 on the season. Moore pitched 2.1 innings, allowed five runs on four hits and struck out three opposing batters.

Ravens reliever Sullivan Brackin was awarded the victory and improved to 2-0, while Jarrette Bonet pitched the last two innings to notch his fourth save of the year. Brackin pitched 3.1 innings, allowed one run and five hits, and struck out four Whitecaps hitters.

GC opened the series with a 12-5 victory over SJCN on March 18 and lost the second game, 7-4, on March 20.
