The 鶹ɫƬ Theatre Department will present a pop culture phenomenon, “Schoolhouse Rock Live!” April 23-26 at the GC Black Box Theatre, located on the second floor of the Fine Arts Building in Room FA-207 at the college’s main campus. The performance is free and open to the public.

Based on the ever-popular, Emmy Award-winning 1970s Saturday morning educational cartoon series, this family-friendly show brings the magic of the animated series to life, teaching lessons through catchy tunes and engaging performances.

This spirited musical follows a young teacher, who is nervous about their first day of teaching. The teacher tries to relax by watching TV, and Schoolhouse Rock is broadcasting. The cartoon inspires them to search for creative and unique ways to teach students grammar, history and science through fun and music. Catchy songs such as “Three Is A Magic Number”, “I’m Just a Bill”, “Conjunction Junction”, and “Interplanet Janet” guarantee the kids will be singing along to the tunes while learning.

“Schoolhouse Rock Live!” will be performed at the GC Black Box Theatre on the following dates: April 23 at 7 p.m., April 24 at 7 p.m., April 25 at 2:30 and 7 p.m., and April 26 at 2:30 and 7 p.m.

Whether you grew up with the original series or are introducing it to a new generation, this show is a fun and educational experience for all ages. The talented cast and crew bringing the Schoolhouse Rock characters and songs to life with vibrance and energy include Eva Arita, Evangeline Bartkowicz, Elijah Barrie, Lucy Bell, Fiona Burton, Daniella Fink, Aaron Gudz, Alyssa Gudz, Isabella Hernandez, Jackson Pendergrass and Diamond West. The production is under the direction of GC Performing Arts Coordinator, Liz Lacy, and the music is under the direction of Dr. Cindy Kates.

"Schoolhouse Rock Live!" was originally adapted for the stage by Theatre BAM, drawing inspiration from the popular educational series created by George Newall and Tom Yohe, based on an idea by David McCall. The book was written by Scott Ferguson, George Keating, and Kyle Hall, with music and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, Bob Dorough, Dave Frishberg, Kathy Mandry, George Newall and Tom Yohe. “Schoolhouse Rock Live!” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.

The 鶹ɫƬ Theatre Department offers a professional immersive training experience for all students within the disciplines of acting, playwrighting, directing, design, and technology. Four productions a year and a diverse range of theatre courses provide every opportunity for students to develop their theatrical skills. Scholarships are available.
